Here's a good one from the other day with ALDARS: Basically had a flash-boom overhead (little dot just slightly to the west of the big blue station dot), just not at all according to ALDARS.....nice. And no it didn't put in TS in pres wx, I did of course.

saw a site last night where ALDARS was reporting only distant ltg when at least a VCTS was occurring. CG strikes within 10 miles...started at 40 past the hour...but aldars did not generate a VCTS until 20 past the next hour. there were at least half a dozen CG strikes before aldars woke up. maybe faa needs to change to a different lightning detection system?

It looks like there was a semi-national or regional ALDARS outage from about 0325-0700Z last night. Does anyone have confirmation of this?

Thanks for the confirmation, coldlover. You'd think they would cancel or postpone a planned outage in areas that were expecting or experiencing thunderstorms, but no:
