Excuses are easy to make our in our office we have 7 employees many have a full retirement, others got screwed by the FAA when the FAA outsourced the Flight Service Stations to Lockhead Martin. Our office has 100% membership. What could be done with more support from the CWO community? I was part of the Flight Service debacle, so I was very skeptical about just what the USCWOA could accomplish. The results that the USCWOA have produced in such a short time is amazing!!

Good point Flyguy! Discussion on this topic is good. Keep it going. Maybe others could chime in on their situation at their site, positive or negative (hopefully more of the same of a positive story overcoming initial skepticism). Whether we like it or not, we're ALL in this together, so we mise well ALL chip in and help out IMO. Keeping informed on what is exactly going on is also good. There have been many updates and letters promoting the USCWOA sent out over the past year+. It's almost harder to not know what has been going on with our Program and how the Powers That Be in the FAA have been dealt with.

I can understand people being leery of contributing to an unproven association if their job was coming to an end due to govt cost cutting.
They should reconsider contributing now though since the USCWOA has proven itself to be an effective tool and the closure threat has been successfully slowed down.

But lots of people at "CORE 30" sites seem to think they are untouchable. Folks- the next time the FAA comes wanting to close- it's not going to be 57. In fact- it maybe some Core 30 sites before others--- before it's all. That is how the FAA has tried to do things in the past. Any site that thinks they are "untouchable' for decommission to LAWRS - is not in the loop.

Love this conversation. My crew needs to hear from someone other than me telling them they need to join - I'm willing to print and post whatever note the CWOA produces. My crew all have good attitudes, but we're all BUSY with just life if not multiple hats (all of us) - and it is very expensive to live in the Alaska bush. I can think of no other reasons for them NOT wanting to take part. It seems to me it's the younger folks who want life handed to them on a platter - us geezers know better... I'm not counting days - I want to work as long as I can, and I like what I'm doing.

That's what's great about the USCWOA NorthWX. We're all in this together to not go down without standing up against the man. Unfortunately from time to time we might need some help from folks on the ground in D.C. to get the message heard, and that can get expensive. I'm more than happy to contribute my .20 an hour to obtain any advantage. I'm a realist also, been through and beat the 57 Gauntlet, if their way is better I'll step aside, but I'm still here.

been trying to convince more of my co-workers to join up, seeing how we are one of the 14-57 sites...the demographics here are...2 NWS retirees who will just ride out the ultimate closures...they could care less given they are already on govt doles...we have an ATC retired who thinks this job is a "joke" and still colludes with his former coworkers(retired from this site)...and even the current ATC young things think they know more about weather than we do...hence the non cooperation from them and the management...the rest of us will continue the support and i know i will continue to support the cause because ive seen first hand, as i fly, the slop and incompetence that the ATC crowd puts out for weather...btw, histo had commented that there are 176 pages of garbage...which there is...however, if you print this stuff up...it turns into almost 1000 pages of slop and operational errors that ATC puts out...

And that 176 html pages/1000 printed pages are just from the LAWRS sites being monitored and the stuff that was actually caught by our CWO people (who've done a great job btw). I think "no degradation of service" has turned into just "no service" when a site goes LAWRS.
