When you click on the list of impacted airports in that article it is directly from the transition plan that Joe Calamita called a draft yesterday. download.aopa.org/advocacy/130424cwo-transition-list.pdfFrom: Joseph.Calamita@faa.gov [Joseph.Calamita@faa.gov] Sent: Tuesday, April 23, 2013 To: Subject: That apparently is a draft document that somehow got out into the public. We have not been instructed to implement it. If it does come to fruition, I am sure FAA Senior Management and the CWO Contracting Officer will properly notify us all. Well, the way I'm seeing it is that chachiman , I believe it was, had mentioned contacting AOPA about this. AOPA wrote that it was actually happening. If it ISN'T going to happen, the FAA WILL have to respond to deny that it isn't actually happening because AOPA is a major player in the aviation world.

Yep, now that it is in print I wouldn't think the FAA can go the no comment route anymore. But then again who knows with them.

Service level is different from airspace. Miami, San Fran, JFK are "B" airspace but service level A airports. "A" airspace is 18,000 ft and above.

My letter to Jim Peters FAA spokesman Eastern Region, Sir, this article came out today regarding sequester, ATC furloughs and the CWO program phaseout. Rumors are running rampant about the demise of the CWO program. All we ask is a straight answer from the FAA so that we can go about planning our futures whatever may happen. I ask you, sir, to either confirm or deny this story. Enough is enough. We deserve the truth. Am I out of a job as of August 31? Is the CWO program being phased out? www.aopa.org/advocacy/articles/2013/130424atc-hit-with-double-whammy.html?CMP=News

Hopefully AOPA follows up on this article and reports how the ATC's will not be leaving the cab to take the weather observations, what they will no longer report, and how they are removing the L from LAWRS. The pilots/airlines deserve to know the quality product they will be receiving.

Well, if they didn't know this story existed before, they do now. Kathleen Bergen doesn't respond to Observer inquiries, so I wrote Mr. Peters. It is doubtful he'll respond, but maybe we'll see an update in a few days on the AOPA website.

The way I read this is if the controllers are helped with their furloughs, i.e., no more furloughs, they'll have ample time and staff to do our weather observersations.

That's the paradox...save ATC chop WX...Congress won't save two programs. They are expending all of their capital on the tower program. Simply put, we are low-hanging fruit for the FAA.
