Canada, might be a possibility, but the pay sucks up there. Check the web site for ATS Services and the job bank at: www.jobbank.gc.ca.

Are you willing to go to the Middle East? I know someone who went to Qatar not too long ago. A former Navy Seal, he now works in security over there. I don't know if there is a big call for weather people overseas, though...

There's always Mt. Washington or Antarctica...Good for single observers, not so much for married.

I'd love to do the Antarctica site. But they require 2 years experience and I'm not quite there yet.

Hokie fan talks about Canada. The pay is good if you can do duel Observer/Forecasting. Yes Antarctica would be fun, even if you are married!!!!! I heard there's no were to spend your money, you'd have alot when you leave!!!! Must like the Cold and long dark nights, trip of a life time though, something to think about when they cut our program.

Do you need upper air experience for Antarctica?

Operation Deep Freeze! 5 months in the Antarctica observing and 7 months back in the States. I almost did this a few years ago, but because of family health issues, I did not go. The pay is very good, but you will be away from your family for the entire 5 months at least.

I do believe it helps to have upper air experience also.

If you are bilingual, there are weather observer/technician type jobs at the larger airports in Europe. I dated a girl from Switzerland a few years ago and I looked into landing a weather observing job at the airport in Zurich, but we broke up before I actually applied.

Years ago I was considering a dual observing-forecasting gig on Kwajalein atoll, which is between Hawaii and Australia in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. It was U.S. military support. You'd have to go online to gamble away your pay from a remote site like that!
