I wish we were allowed more discretion on distant CB/TCU remarks here, it's hard to give heads up when you see it coming because you get dinged for an error if you do. Got no problem with our rules being the minimum standard, but we should be allowed to go above and beyond. what do you get dinged for? giving the movement of distant CB? I see a lot of cwo's that don't give distant cb movement...and 7900 says to do so if movement can be determined. I know the one sorry remark of distant cb does not give movement...but the instructions are clear. what happens if a line of tstms is 15 NW of the ap moving SE at 50 mph? the airport gets a big surprise...that's what!

professional lightning program showed 1 strike nearly over the ap with others within 5 miles. do NOT rely on ALDARS to detect all lightning! in this instance aldars only picked up lightning 5-10nm miles from the ap and between 10 and 30NM.

How can you determine movement when we are not supposed to use local radar or other tools? The whole VCTS thing has caused a huge mess for everyone. I seen so many stations doing it so differently. Some have to change it to TS, some don't put in any remarks, some use VC LGT TS VC.

Movement and proximity of CBs can be determined by just watching the cloud for a few minutes... This should be possible even in flatland, though it is easier in mountainous terrain.
