Once again when there is snow pack on the ground and everybody is way below 0f temperature wise and the satellite shows clear skies...the NWS is calling stations "cloudy " in the hourly round up...because they are seeing snowpack and they think its cloud cover on the IR views...I just looked at Illinois and Indiana and the majority of the states are clear (CWOs reporting clear, and even auto stations are clear with temps way below 0 and cold enhancement with snow pack )...SNOWPACK doesnt move when looping, people...NWS pay attention...and this isnt the first time this has happened...this has been going on for years...pay Attention!!! I know when the NWS calls us for information, as in snow depth...we say its on the ob...you know 4/xxx group...oh, they say...we didnt know about that...How many years we been doing this?? Unbelievable ...

Last July 5th, I got a call from the NWS, asking why the visibility at my site, plus surrounding stations was so low. I had to tell him it was a nationwide effect of people setting off fireworks, and morning inversions. The same thing happened today, but no call; they did however have to amend the TAF for much worse VIS than predicted. NWS not paying attention to the calendar...

Again the NWS not paying attention to state hourly roundup... There is no rain at GYY and the temperature is way out of whack here... But lets let it go through as normal...How much do we pay you???

Are they still incredibly understaffed? I've been told they're below half manning at this point. I try to help out the local NWS whenever I can because of this.

Careful not to step in that war between NWS & FAA... NWS is fully supporting stand alone automation also - and they know how bad the robots really are - we want to keep them as friends.
