During the month of July the wind sensor went in and out of service 56 times...according to the FAA it's working as intended and shouldn't be included in the quarterly PMSR reports!?!?
Maybe someone should tell them that light and variable wind outages have nothing to do with bird activity or ice!!!!

Had this happen at my site once: 4,605 rejected wind samples in one day seems excessive to me.

And if they haven't already, they'll take away your back up wind sensor... and maybe by you a Kestrel. Wet finger anyone? Yeah, we posted the Beaufort Scale on our desk... I miss my F420. Tornado, you got us beat on 4,605 - we often have 300.

It's easy for them to dismiss when the winds are light and variable, but we've had several occasions the past couple of years when winds suddenly accelerate to 25-30 knots or more during thunderstorms, including once when we met squall criteria, and the stupid sensor goes missing. You're at a busy airport, having a thunderstorm with 1SM visibility and heavy rain, shifting winds that are gusting over 30 knots, and your wind sensor goes down for a few minutes. I have a hard time accepting the "working as intended" excuse during these situations. I think it's a serious issue and I report it in the PMSR each time it occurs in situations like this.

Whether it's 31K ft ceilometers that only read up to 25K ft, Lightning detection that only picks up some LTG, or wind sensors that fail several times a day everything is working as intended.

They're just following a U.N. mandate to reduce population... and redistribute wealth to the non-flying public.

Wind outages cause things like the above to happen. If the peak wind to 30 knots was only 5 minutes old, why was the gust reported as 25 knots?
