When Comms are down AND internet is down so you can't use AISR how do you transmit the obs? We've recently been told by FSS that they don't take phoned in observations anymore.

If ASOS comms are out of service and you cannot access the AISR, then you must telephone the observations to the Flight Data Unit (FDU) at your overlying FAA ARTCC for long-line dissemination.

You can also call another site (assuming they have internet access) under your contract number and they can transmit for you via AIS-r.

We had scheduled maintenance, where the FAA was doing a power upgrade. During this time we didn't have power to the ASOS, internet was not not available as well. I also tried to coordinate with FSS to take our observations, when it was clear that wasn't available I called flight data at Boston center. I talked to the supervisor, and they could not have been more helpful. All our observations during the outtage were transmitted smoothly and correct!!

Good to know guys because I don't remember hearing anything about the Flight Data Unit transmitting observations. I'm glad someone seems to care about a CWO in need! Now I'll have to figure out who are FDU is....

The tower Air Traffic Manager at your site should be able to provide you with contact information for the FDU at your site's overlying ARTCC. FSS will not transmit observations for you in the event that ASOS-ADAS comms are down and you cannot access the AISR. That responsibility transferred to the ARTCC FDUs a few years ago.
