so, they moved our office to a different room on friday...and guess what...the OID monitor was blank. aomc and NWS advised they would be out next tuesday. oh...and the reason? monday is a holiday. they spent friday at a nearby ASOS because the vis sensor was malfunctioning. so, we were lucky we were able to relocate to the tower and use their OID. severe wx forecast today, tomorrow, and monday. an FAA person call the tower and talked to me. they had been checking phone lines all day. I explained the problem is between the modem the OID monitor probably take the tech 5 min, max, to fix it. data makes it as far as the modem. FAA advised they would call the NWS and try to speed up repair time. stay tuned...

update...NWS tech says he can't do anything until he gets permission from the FAA. FAA says the paperwork to do this could takes weeks...possibly months. seems like now would be the perfect time to get the atct quicky certified to take over. hope they don't think of it.

Go through channels, but keep barking further up the tree until someone with decision making capability steps up and admits it and tries to be helpful - even if they close you (I pray not), ATC will need an OID. Do you have a VDU? They can be reconfigured to function as an OID. There is no excuse for this kind of incompetence in my opinion - our program requires us to be able to edit & augment ASLOP. I've gone as far as FAA Regional Director for similar issues...

Our ASOS had serious problems with radio interference that lasted around 3 years or so. The NWS Office put a new ET on the problem and it was fixed in a couple of days.
