Reported: Beyond the state, Contract Weather Observers (CWO) is an area that the FAA is attempting to eliminate and shift to ATC in an effort to cut costs. The problem with this move is that while the CWO staff can actually go outside to observe the weather, ATC must remain at their station. This presents a problem that ultimately can curtail commercial services. Late last fall representatives from Spokane International Airport, Spokane Airports Tenants Association, and others met with the FAA for nine hour meeting. In the end, it appears that the FAA was beat back in Spokane.Complete File: Page 4 under 2016 Legislative Season (2nd paragraph): www.wpaflys.org/PDF_Files/WPA_Wings-April-May_2016.pdf
