I feel sorry for these smaller airports that were suckered into buying this junk. FA and A probably convinced them it was as good or better than a trained observer. Notice I said TRAINED observer...not a LAWRS observer.

The temperature (and dew point) went missing after 2253Z, while rain was falling. Eventually, ASOS detected icing and reported freezing rain. How did users know the icing wasn’t occurring earlier? A trace of ice accretion had already appeared on the 2340Z SPECI.
