Anyone else having issues with the ASOS putting PL before RA? CWO augmented PRESENT WX from RA to RAPL and generated a SPECI. PL was -PL so the RA would be the predominant precipitation type. Upon transmission the ASOS put PL in front of the RA making the PRESENT WX PLRA. Naturally, a COR was generated immediately. There has to be a work around. Thanks.

we don't get a lot of PL, so I don't remember our ASOS doing that. I do know that if you input +TSRAGR, ASOS changes it to +TSGRRA

hlsto2, that is not as bad since there is no intensity for hail. However, if ASOS changes +RAPL to +PLRA, the phones light up light a Christmas tree. Meanwhile, the observer has to let the phones ring as the obligation is to get the observation corrected. Then the observer has to hope the observation shows up in ADDS. That is not always a guarantee.
If the COR does not make it into ADDS, the observer has an obligation to make sure the weather online reflects what is happening at the airport, so the observer has to generate a SPECI. Unfortunately the ASOS flips it again and then another COR is required.
This is ridiculous! Who is the person who asked for the ASOS to be programmed this way? i hope they are no longer in any position that anything to do with weather. That individual obviously has little understanding of order of entry.

Don't it have something to do with the frozen, freezing, liquid rule. I have seen it do this before. Put in -PLSN and it will flip it to SNPL and drop the -

Don't it have something to do with the frozen, freezing, liquid rule. I have seen it do this before. Put in -PLSN and it will flip it to SNPL and drop the - That rule when out with the old airways code (mid 1990's). Just chalk up the issue you reference to another programming flaw.
