Greetings, I am wondering the end date after all the option years on the current contracts. Some of us were late to start the original contract. I thought the FAA extended everyone's out to 30 Sep 2018, then someone told me it was some weird date like 29 Dec 2018.
Anyone know? This request is just for my account. I'm just planning my exit strategy since I'm not sure if I'm wiling to dance through hoops and go through another FAA contract fiasco and all the stress that comes with it.
Thanks.

I think congress told the FAA to keep the CWO program going until at least sep 30 of this year. I am sure the FAA already has a different battle plan in mind. would not surprise me to see the list of 57 show up again for closure on that date.

If we are to have jobs after Sep 30, 17. I would think the FAA would need to Issue a new solicitation for bids on CWO services beginning Oct 1, 17. I believe all the option years on the last solicitation/awards have been exhausted. Knowing the way the FAA botches how contracts are awarded they need all the time they can get. I would think that if something is going to be issued, it would be done in the next month or two. Any thoughts?

Having read the last Contract Weather Observer Program Transition Plan from March,2013 and talking to some of the TWR personal, they said that NATCA requires a 6 month written notification from the FAA if Tower personal take over the CWO responsibilities. If that is true than April 1, 2017 would be the date the FAA provides the letter. That being said, not sure if its true or not. If contracts do come out, I would have to guess no later than the beginning of May or late May. Having been through the contract run around, won't surprise me in the least if they extend our contracts due to the fact of the current FAA Bill needs to be hashed out or Congress kick's the can down the road and they extend our sites another 6 months!!! If by some miracle the contracts do come out, are the 57 sites slated to be closed last year on the list this time around? Going to be interesting to say the least.

Our PIV cards expire 30 Sep of this year, so we are planning to start our renewal process around June.

Remember that there is the Vendor's annual CWO conference with the FAA sometime in April. Even the Vendors haven't heard anything and are not sure if every CWO site contract was extended until Sept. 30, 2018 or not when I asked them. There is going to be lots going on the next couple of months, but that is why we have some boots on the ground!

Has any been contacted recently By Morris Allen& Associates out of Tallahassee that they are planning to bid on Stations this up coming round ? We had a call last week from them, the person making the call didn't seem to know what they were talking about, and wanted employment resume to be considered for employment. was somewhat of a strange call.
interesting to see if any others had received a call from this company and there thoughts.

By the time they got to us they were better prepared. They just said they were bidding on the new contracts and asked for the senior observer's resume. They didn't say it was necessary to be considered for employment. They were brief and pleasant.

If I remember correctly from what was discussed recently on the facebook page, the SWO resumes are required to be submitted with bids.

Correct Swifterz, this has been the past practice for all bidders.

Below is text from the Annual CWO telcon. Our contractor expects extensions past this date as the draft SIR has not even been released yet. Current Dates of Contract Seven (7) FY13 CWO contracts are set to expire in November 15, 2018. Ten (10) FY14 CWO contracts will also be extended to reflect the same POP end date. Follow-on Competition SIR to be released in Spring 2018.
