Just listened to our local atis...we have LTGICCCCG and its associated thunderstorm...(we are one of the 57 they want to shut down,btw)...
the ATIS was Lightning with ICING in clouds and reaching the ground...(DUH...temperature is 73F) Our airport has manual ATIS no automatic atis...so ATC cuts them hourly...they have a habit of not cutting specials when required, but thats another story...As a pilot this is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE...THE FAA IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS GARBAGE...and they want to propagate this stuff nationwide...(WANT ARE YOUR SMOKING,FAA?).
ATC has no clue on any of the ASOS stuff, nor do they care...TOTAL SCREWED UP...NO CWO should close period!!!
Called up to cab to straighten them out...they didnt care...typical "oh well, whatever, attitude"...Screw that!
