According to Jodie, the secretary for PATCO, th new person replacing Sam is going to be Mr. Henry Santana. As far as Mark's position goes, that will be filled from the National AFL-CIO sometime in the near future. Until then, Jodie has been asked to be in charge at the PATCO office, so if you have any questions you should call the Union office directly in Tallahassee. She told me that they would be sending letters out by the end of this week with the management changes. Jodie told me that Mr. Santana has been with another part of the union for 25 years.

Jodie tells me this AM that PATCO is considering setting up a negotiating committee - instead of the contractors negotiating with the union for each site, they would negotiate with the committee for all their sites. Umm... Copying my comments to Jodie: Pleasant to speak with you this AM. The idea of a "negotiating committee" has some merit - for diffusing some of the power of the chief organizer/negotiator, and for structural ideas like discipline and grievance procedures, which should be uniform for each contractor whose employees are represented by PATCO. I have deep concerns about a committee negotiating our salaries and benefits: Costs of living vary widely from area to area - it would be ridiculous for someone in a low cost area to be asking for the same as we get here in a higher cost area of Alaska. We used the Alaska Department of Labor's "Geographic Differential Study" of wages and costs of living to show that our wages are justified. Bottom line - it's none of the other stations' business what another station's wages and benefits are - I don't want a committee telling me what wages we should be negotiating for. A committee is not going to respond well to those differing needs, and a committee adds a layer of bureaucracy to a process that should be closest to the people the Union represents - the rank and file members. The Chief Organizer is subject to election - elections must be fair and honest, and we should be able to trust our Union officials - I'm not afraid that our Chief will get too cozy with the contractors - the Chief is accountable to the members, but a committee will just hide when things get hot, even if they are elected. I would ask that the Union be more communicative than the recent past. Thank you for considering my opinion.

He had been called out of retirement for 6-month-long terms for two years, and is not willing to do more. Henry Santana is still in his position as Executive Director. Jodie Blue is doing most of the work and returning phone messages - she says she is "swamped". Some attorneys who have done work for the Federation will be handling negotiations.

All PATCO members should have received a letter from the union confirming what I wrote above. The letter is dated 7/15/21 - I received mine 7/26/21. Lead negotiator and and counsel for PATCO is Lance Geren.

Henry Santana sent me an email - they are rebuilding their website. Jodie Blue has retired (she will be missed). 800-373-5777 works, but will usually just get you Henry's voicemail - he's pledging to do better returning calls. His office line is 850-843-1153.

New contact taking Jodie's place and some of Henry's organizing and issues work:
Kathleen A. Carr was recently hired by FPD in the title of Administrative Representative to organize and service both public & private bargaining unit employees in units certified by FPD, including PATCO. Ms. Carr brings over 30 years of contract administration, negotiating experience and employee advocacy to the role. She is committed to every employee being fully & fairly represented by a labor contract in the workplace and is looking forward to servicing PATCO bargaining unit employees as well as updating contact information. She can be reached at kcarr@unionfpd.org or by cell at 561-917-7664.
She needs updated info for everyone.

Ok, so what is the status of what PATCO was submitting to the DOL due to the blatant violation of the CBA for Oct 1 2023….Any update or ruling?
