7900.5E errors/notes. these are some errors I have noted. I am sure there are others I have not found. some of these have been pointed out to the FAA many years ago.
page 45 7.11. and page 88 13.22., state the peak wind is reported in the next METAR. it is also reported in SPECIs
page 87 13.20.b. last sentence is incorrect. delete b. and add the remark in EXAMPLE:
a funnel cloud that ended at 20 past the hour: FUNNEL CLOUD E20
page 62 9.25. and page 91 13.32. remark: hail less than 1/4 inch in diameter coded as GR LESS THAN 1/4
previous FAA memo said remark not required for GR less than 1/4 inch in diameter
no hail remark would assume hail less than 1/4 inch in diameter.
E.4 states shaded out present weather entries in the table will not be accepted into the present weather field by ASOS. VCTS is shaded out, however it CAN be entered and accepted by ASOS in the present weather field. software update to not allow manual entry?
E.4 shows DRIZZLE as the contraction for moderate drizzle...s/b DZ
page 58 9.13. and E.4 footnote 7...change GS LGT GS MOD GS HVY to: -GS +GS. Example: for light snow pellets: remarks...PREWX -GS. heavy snow pellets: remarks...PREWX +GS.
moderate snow pellets would not require a remark as GS is allowed in present weather.
page 92 13.37. in EXAMPLES for CB location/movement...add CB DSNT W MOV E. many CWO's are going by the example CB DSNT W which does not show movement...and are not showing movement of distant CB. the instructions clearly state to show the movement of CB if known.
