Is this posting just for the contracts next year or did Midwest let a bunch of observers go?

Some decent sites, but I'd wait to see what becomes of the new contracts next year!!! Believe the FAA will try everything in their power to shut some portion of the CWO program!! I've learned my lesson on trusting the FAA when it comes to contracts!!!

The FAA has to listen to Congress, and despite all the mess in Congress now, we're popular with both parties. Until I see rumblings we're in trouble, I'm not going to worry.

The FAA maintenance folks floated a trial balloon to see if they could shut my station - there was no pushback from FAA contracting or airways: on a telcon, Ken Cunningham said they would just terminate our contract when asked if there would be monetary consequences to closing us. None of the facilities folks on the call were aware of the no closure requirement - and no one mentioned it. The excuse used to bring up the subject was the condition of our building (solely due to maintenance dropping the ball...). The FAA Reauthorization Act says they may not spend money to close any FAACWOs - we need stronger language in the next edition. So, it looks like it is possible for them to close us anyway... Fortunately, the condition of our building isn't as bad as the maintenance supervisor claimed, and his revenge motive is evident. While the intent of Congress was to preserve the program and keep all our stations open, there are some who want us to go away. It might take an act of Congress to preserve any one station that they are determined to close. I want to be the bearer of better news Alstein, but this is what happened and I'm exposing my identity to the FAA in writing this. Advice: be nice to and work with your maintenance staff. My bad experience with Napoleon will not go away... even though I won the first round, and he had a chip on his shoulder before I got to be victimized by him, he won't give up and work with us.
