I would like to start a list of the towers that are currently training for LAWRS. If you know of a tower that is currently doing so please post it here and I will start a list. If you know the date they began training please post that too. Thanks.

KYNG and KCAK controllers are not training and are not already certified. These towers will assume service level C augmentation/backup in two weeks (May 1st), and their "training" will consist entirely of shadowing the contract observers for two days. None of them are certified and none will be by May 1st.

Why would any observer train a controller!!? Or even let them shadow. Seems like lunacy to me. I know it's not the controllers' fault, but it'll be a cold day in hell before I train anyone from my tower to do this job. They want them to do weather, let them do it...I am not going to help them out one bit. They try and shadow me, not a single word will be spoken regarding weather and/or ASOS.

sluroots, I totally agree...our shop has been told we are to do the same thing at the end of the month. The first thing I did was render myself unavailable for work on May 1st. Guess I will suck it up on Apr. 30th cause I was already on the schedule, and several of those who were'nt have "suddenly had something come up" and can't work on the 30th.

I think if they tried something like that here, several of my coworkers and I would have something come up....like all of us meeting at the local watering hole!

Does anyone know what towers have been notified of LAWRS training...We are a B site, big airport, so far no notifications at all at the ATC...It would be nice to see a list of those of you who have notified, perhaps there is a pattern of where the FAA is going

So far I think we have Buffalo and Atlanta but I will go through everything in the moring and get the list started. I would think there must be others and hopefully everyone will let us know as soon as they get word.

According to our ATM here in KATL, they have put a hold on the LAWRS training for the time being. This was relayed to me as of late this afternoon. I believe they said it was not only ATL, but the rest of the CWO program. Maybe the right letter stating how insane it would be for someone with no real weather training, 3 to 4 hundred feet in the air, already stressed out and not allowed to go outside crossed the FAA's desk. Hopefully a glimmer of hope in this already stressed out time for us.

I might be completely wrong but after seeing the mou and hearing from a few people the past 2 days I am more confident that the program will survive then I was earlier in the week. I would say 50% chance that the program survives intact 90% chance most of the ones scheduled to close in July stay open.

I was notified today while taking an observation from a senior controller on a smoke break that EL Paso will go LAWRS. I went to the training person in the tower and he said he heard something about LAWRS and that he thinks our shutdown date is July 1. This would agree with the posted shutdown dates posted in here. They have not begun training, but it sounds official to me. I called my contractor and let them know.

Fu-- what in your mind "after seeing the mou" gives you some positive feedback I personally think the "four groups" are real,, but done at whim with not much study done. Maybe that's what going on now-- a closer look. Look close at some of them.-- Little Rock,AR after KMSP??? and KDFW?? Please. Makes no sense,, but then again look at who's dealing the cards. At this point-- nothing will even come close to surprising me.

Hopefully they stopped it because they opened their eyes. They could have also stopped it to avoid questions on Tuesday...just my thinking.
