www.timesnews.net/article/9060353/contract-for-airport-weather-observers-up-in-the-airBergen didn’t have the number of contract weather observers working at TCRA.
While up-to-date weather information is always a safety concern, TCRA’s main general aviation operator didn’t think pilots or passengers would be affected if weather observers weren’t at the airport.
“I feel like the pilots would be able to get their information from the National Weather Service. ... I feel like most of the pilots also get (weather) information off other websites,” said Pam Phillips, owner and general manager at Tri-City Aviation. “Years ago, pilots would borrow our courtesy car and drive to the (FAA) tower and check the weather. ... Since technology has come so far, we haven’t had anyone go over there in years.”

Haha..I just put up the same story I'll take mine off. Someone needs to ask Ms Phillips where the NWS and these websites she mentions get the weather info from.

Here is my response to Mr Hayes: Mr Hayes,
In reference to story published April 16, 2013 "Status of federal contract for airport weather observers up in the air"
In readings your story, I feel there is a misunderstanding of what we, as certified contract weather observers provide to the aviation community.
We are the ones responsible for providing accurate weather conditions. At major airports across the nation we monitor, augment and back up the automated system (ASOS), due to the limited abilities of the sensors.
Please take a look at the information attached and if you would like to follow up with any questions, please feel free to contact me..
I ended it with my cover letter and then attached the letter and the listing of all sites across the nation that would be affected if the program closes. This story could not have been written any worse, IMO. Just goes to show that alot (and in this case, airport owner) has no clue how the airport gets it's information ... unless she was provided wrong information from Mr Hayes, which if that is the case, hopefully this email will educate him some ...

Makes you wonder if the reporter even bothered to speak with an observer at Tri.

I tried to register so that I could leave a comment (they haven't authorized me yet). I would try to educate Miss Phillips (who should already know better, being owner of the FBO).
