So, as far as the FAA knows, we should know nothing in regards to the CWO program shutting down..That begs me to ask, what's the "supposed" status of our new contracts? Are they going to continue to just extend them until the "end" and all this new contractor talk over the past 6 months was just make believe to make us think something was being "negotiated"? Very confused here!

The transition plan advises against making awards and instead continue with extensions until the program can be closed.

What would happen if none of the contractors accepted extensions? Very unlikely, but what if they balked?

I think the last round of contracts was a cover up. It wanted up to date figures to plug into their transition plan. If I was a contractor I'd tell them to go jump in lake Erie, which is 42 degrees right now.

weatheri, I also heard the same story. If my memory serves me right, it was ISG that declined their contract extension and Pacific Weather picked up at least one Texas site. Could be wrong on those details but it I think that is what I heard.

Second Hand info, from Weather observer friend in TX. who I trust, ISG was their contractor, and they refused the extension, Midwest is now their contractor during the latest extension period.

ISG is run by former FAA management...I guess we know what they think of the current regime.

What would happen if none of the contractors accepted extensions? Very unlikely, but what if they balked? They would get another contractor. I won a single-site weather contract from the NWS in 1994. In 1995, it changed over to the FAA. After asking me on Dec. 30, 1996, to take a 3-month extension (which I accepted); they called me on March 31, 1997, and asked me to take another 3-month extension. I declined. There was a long silence on the other end of the phone. Within an hour, they had arranged for another contractor to take over the site. That contractor was there for 6 months while they bid out the new contract. Of course, you spoke of if none of the contractors played that game. I suppose in an alternate universe, it could happen.

Hi Everyone I know I have not been on here for a while so let me just tell you the facts and what i know first there is funding through one October. Yes the FAA IS TRYING TO PHASE US OUT BY ONE SEPTEMBER 2013. The FAA IS CURRENTLY WORKING ON THE CBI TO SHORTEN THE COURSE DOWN FROM TO DAYS TO FOUR HOURS. They are not calling it a LAWRS COURSE ANYMORE IT IS NOW AN AVIATION WEATHER COURSE. They are also mandating that the observations be taken from the tower with the help from the airport authority. They are also stating that there will be no degregation in service. The contractors MAY TAKE LEGAL ACTION AGAINST THE FAA. EVERYTHING HAS BEEN PUSHED AHEAD 30 DAYS FORM THE DATES ISSUED IN THE TRANSITION PLAN BUT MAY BE MOVED BACK UP TO THE ORIGINAL DATES DUE TO THE FURLOUGHS GOING AWAY. I promise you all this I am doing everything in my power in ATLANTA TO STOP THIS AND I WILL SUCCEED. eVERYONE NEEDS TO GET THE WORD OUT AND FIGHT THIS WILL TALK SOON atlwxguy

Help from the airport authority? So someone who works for the local airport will be measuring snow, etc.?

Yes Tornado, without help from the Airport Authority to provide non-Federal Observers to differentiate weather elements that can't be discerned from the tower cab, Part 121 and 135 operations are affected. As I stated earlier just one of the holes in the transition plan, and a very large hole at that.
