Control Systems Research, Inc. is taking applications for a Full-Time Weather Forecaster. The ad will remain open until filled. The position is projected to begin 7-1-13.
Candidates are advised that this position is dependent upon the Navy awarding forecasting services. The actual start date may slide if the Navy delays announcement of the award.
Candidates must meet the following requirements:
Must be a U.S. Citizen
Must have at least two years experience in observing
Prior observation certification with the Department of Defense (DoD), Federal Aviation Administration, or National Weather Service, including two years experience in observing, taking recording, encoding, and disseminating surface weather observations using the Meteorological Aviation Routing Weather Report (METAR) code
Must have completed a DoD training program for weather observing or an equivalent National Weather Service program
Must have completed a DoD training program for weather forecasting or an equivalent National Weather Service program
Experience with the Automated Surface Observing System (ASOS) observing system preferred
Minimum of two years experience in aviation forecasting
Flight Weather Briefing experience a plus
Duties include:
Performs Meteorological Weather Watch, taking, evaluating, recording, encoding, and disseminating surface weather observations
Operates Pilot-to-Metro and NOAA Alert Weather Radios
Monitors radar and satellite imagery, and locally disseminates centrally produced Weather Warnings
Receives and disseminates PIREPS locally and longline.
Provide DD-175-1 flight weather briefings, Canned Route Forecasts, issues warnings, watches and advisories, over-the-counter briefings, PMSV briefings, and Terminal Aerodome Forecasts as assigned
Operations include nights, weekends, and holidays
Hourly pay begins at $25.47 (Observer) and increases to $29.56 when certified and performing as a forecaster. An additional amount is earned for health and welfare benefits. Night differential is compounded to base pay. Extra pay is included for holidays worked. Duties may include occasional overtime. The available shifts and hours according to the current schedule are as follows: 32-40 hours per week, actual shifts are currently unknown
The selected candidate shall be paid at the observer rate during the qualification / certification process and when standing Observer Only shifts. Actual forecasting services are currently projected to commence August 1, 2013.
Additional Comments: Candidates having an active CAC ID or recent security clearance shall be given preference. Experience using the Navy's Flight Weather Briefer program a plus. Must have visual acuity correctible to 20/20 with glasses or contacts. Candidates should be advised that the number of hours may fluctuate as requirements dictate.
