Post Description:
THE Weather Observer observes weather, provides weather information, analyses automated weather data and adjusts it according to good judgment. (S)he is responsible to provide the Kandahar Airfield (KAF) personnel with accurate and timely weather observations for safe and effective air and ground operations. Additionally (s)he ensures that all required weather instruments and equipment are in good working order.
Principle Duties:
Providing the required meteorological observations and designated/related atmospheric information at KAF and its direct surroundings using a variety of meteorological equipment.
Interpreting standards and regulations as they apply to weather observation and reporting. Interpreting atmospheric data measurements and apprising the forecaster and other concerned personnel on significant changes in the actual weather situation.
Assisting the forecaster in the preparation of weather information and disseminating products to local and long line customers.
Providing, in the absence of a forecaster, observed weather warnings to avoid loss of base equipment and prevent injury to personnel.
Performing preventive maintenance on meteorological equipment.
Ensuring the proper functioning of the meteorological communications, data and graphics display systems.
Providing input for the formulation or revision of directives and regulations.
Additional Duties: The incumbent of the post may be required to perform other related duties as directed. Duties are to be performed in a multinational environment.
Essential Qualifications:
Professional/Experience:
Very good of the rules and regulations governing weather observation and reporting acquired through at least 3 years current related professional experience, including meteorological weather reporting. Good knowledge of civilian and military meteorological organizations, systems and procedures.
Education/Training:
Training in weather observation and evaluation.
Driver License "B" category
Experience in a multinational environment.
Language:
English: Good spoken and written.
Note: The normal working language within the organisation is English.

The person who fills this post must be mature and experienced with sound judgement, excellent interpersonal and communication skills and unquestionable integrity. This person must be highly motivated and must demonstrate the ability to work ap part of a wider safety management team characteristed by cultural, ethnic and professional diversity. (S)he must have a comprehensive grasp of military culture and must be able to quickly recognise and adpat to new situations, especially under stress in case of a major incident on the airbase.

Additional Remarks:
Only applications from candidates meeting essential requirements will be taken into consideration. The successful applicant is required to be proactive in fulfilling the pre-employment conditions. This includes medical examinations and security clearance certificates. Applicant must be able to obtain or to be issued a NATO-recognized national Secret Security Clearance certificate. An initial 12 month contract will be offered and contract extensions may be possible. Because of the dynamic environment, ISAF posts are under regular review and therefore post details and responsibilities, including contract duration and contractual grade may change during the contractual period.
Benefit Package:
Monthly salary of € 4,787.00 (Tax free in the host country)
Daily Allowance of € 82.93 while working in Afghanistan.
Installation allowance equal to one-month salary (50% to be reimbursed if not completing two consecutive years of service).
