You ought to check out the NWS Alaskan Region. They are short a few people at three different stations that I'm aware of: Cold Bay (1 pos.); Bethel (2 pos.); & St Paul (1 pos.). Check out USAJOBS for "Meteorological Technician."

Just wondering how long it usually takes to fill a position after someone quits? And how much notice do people usually give the company before they leave. To follow on what tamrich said (and a repeat from what I posted elsewhere)... Cold Bay and Annette Island have openings. Folks have been selected and are en route for Bethel and St Paul. I would urge anyone who is interested to apply to all locations. Openings can happen at any time, so if you want to apply it's best to put in at all grade levels for all locations. www.usajobs.gov/GetJob/ViewDetails/387474800Most folks who come into these offices do not have upper air experience when they get hired, so don't worry about that! That is something that is taught once the person gets to the location. The 'average' time from selection to arrival on station is about 60 days, depending on how fast the background check gets done, etc.

Several Job openings in the Middle East at Military sites. Have to be mobile. Contractor to the Military may need you moved to another site ASAP via Military aircraft. Some sites may get hot, like in Scud missile attacks, etc... There is a need for Weather Forecasters and also some ASOS or Manual observers. I'm not interested. . . like to keep my head on my shoulders and have been in Wars before.
