Do you go with what the predominant precip type is, since the two go by different rules?

to confuse things 7900 states that both PL and RA may be based on rate of fall. PL may also be based on vis...which is what we use since ASOS many times will not accurately measure frozen pcpn.

FAA Order 7900.5C paragraph 10.12 on page 70: "When more than one form of precipitation is occurring at a time or precipitation is occurring with an obscuration, the intensities determined must be no greater than that which would be determined if any of the forms were occurring alone."
