Huntsville never went to LAWRS in 2013. You may be thinking of Mobile, AL, where a controller inadvertently toggled the pressure sensor off and several observations were transmitted with a missing AS. This is why the last software version moved the ALDARS sensor to the top of the sensor status page. The much documented quality control file from May 2013 include the 14 sites that briefly closed, starting May 1, 2013 Quality Control Summary - May 7 2013.pdf (777.27 KB)

This should be a document used at every single panel to prove that the FAA can't continue to say they provide quality weather observations.

TCU, who created this report, the FAA or one of us? It seems very official nonetheless and really exposes the FAA as liars in their "no degradation" bullshit. LAWRS people couldn't even handle the duties for 48 hours before f-ing everything up. I will certainly use it if I ever get invited to the supposed SRM at my airport and will use it in other ways besides.

This should be a document used at every single panel to prove that the FAA can't continue to say they provide quality weather observations. Which brings up one of the stranger questions and so called answers from the "Commonly Asked Questions" document "In May 2013 fourteen airports transitions from CWO to LAWRS certifications performance of official airport weather observation duties. Within 24-48 hours, duties were returned tot he CWO's. Why did the duties return to the CWO's?" Answer: "AJT-21 is unaware of the rationale behind the FAA Administrator's reinstatement of CWO services to those 14 sites on May 2, 2013" Unaware??? It was a DISASTER, that's why, and people need to know that.

Why don't they just say....."I refuse to answer on the grounds it may tend to incriminate me and/or the FAA"....

Answer: "AJT-21 is unaware of the rationale behind the FAA Administrator's reinstatement of CWO services to those 14 sites on May 2, 2013" Why don't they just say....."I refuse to answer on the grounds it may tend to incriminate me and/or the FAA".... While AJT-21 can say they are unaware of the rationale behind reinstatement of the 14 in early May, one result of that reinstatement was to allow for more stakeholder input on how to proceed going forward“Air traffic controllers currently provide quality weather observation services at more than 300 airports around the country. The FAA pays contractors to provide those same services at an additional 140 facilities around the country. In an effort to reduce costs without reducing the services or impacting safety, the FAA has been working through a phased plan to train controllers to take over those duties from the contractors. After further reviewing the plan, the FAA has made the determination that it will extend its weather observer contracts through the end of this fiscal year to allow for more stakeholder input on how to proceed going forward,” the FAA announced. See how many from industry & stakeholders were invited to the panels. In fact, these groups should have been in from the start, before the panels, as that was when the FAA began the changing of the bad weather scores, etc.

This report was the result of our quality control.
