but that Eastern Region has decided that no weather observers are allowed to attend. Has anyone else at one of the thirty something Eastern Region CWO sites (out of the list of 57) been told the same by their local ATC? I'm starting to sense that this Local SRM business is a sham.

Find out where it is...be there early with notes and paperwork to hand out to stakeholders and whoever attends the meeting. As Coldlover said, get a letter from those opposing the transition that can't make the meeting and give it to them. Make a fuss. Invite the media to where the meeting is being held and tell them that you weren't able to even speak on your behalf to save your job. Enough playing nice; show up and mean business but do it in a legal and responsible manner. Enough of the FAA's BS; time to fight for your job even if you aren't invited! Just my thoughts. Rant over

That's a great idea. I certainly have plenty of information to pass around at this point, not that I won't already be forwarding it to the airport manager ahead of time (who happens to be a degreed meteorologist and Navy pilot besides). Wish me luck. I still would like to know what others have heard if you're in the Eastern Region. And if you have been invited to the local SRM, please PM me with some sort of proof if you wouldn't mind. I appreciate anyone's help in advance.

No one else on here from the Eastern Region has word of their local SRM and if they've been invited?

I've also just found out that Burlington, Vermont already had their local SRM recently. Unfortunately, I was told that 2 people (tower ATM and an FAA person from Atlanta coordinating the process maybe) ultimately made the final decision, regardless of local input, to decide that they can do without CWOs. I don't know if this is more of rubber stamping going on or what. Can anyone from Burlington Intl confirm this?

PS - For what it's worth, Burlington is currently an A site (15 composite score) and did receive the extra 4 points for bad winter weather too.

I just asked the CWO SWO @ KBTV, her response was only: I was not informed of this.

Another one bites the dust. I'm now hearing that, despite the Lead Observer actually being invited and present (though not allowed to speak unless spoken to), Manchester, NH also crashed and burned. Apparently, there were very few airlines present at the meeting that was mostly dominated by ATC and FAA personnel and the FAA folk dismantled every concern that was brought up (in their own deviant and foolish way I'm sure). At any rate, the FAA decided unilaterally again that Manchester can become LAWRS, just like Burlington, VT. In Burlington, the Lead was not even invited interestingly, so I'm already seeing discrepencies on weather a CWO gets invited or not in the FAA Eastern Region.

I can picture the FAA officials having his arm behind his back saying...say uncle...say uncle...say you can do the weather...say you can do the weather. It's all set the ATM said they can do the weather...NEXT!!

This can be likened to the effort to thwart terrorism. The FBI, CIA, Dept. of Homeland Security, etc., have to be right every time to stop an attack. If they are wrong just once, dozens or even hundreds could die. If the FAA gets its way, cancels the CWO program and expands the LAWRS program; they'd better be right every single time. Getting the weather wrong just once, could kill hundreds.
The trouble is the track record of the LAWRS program getting it wrong...

tornado, They are slick. The responsibility for weather not reported by the ASOS becomes the airport's responsibility (http://www.faa.gov/documentLibrary/media/Order/JO_7230_8B_508.pdf).
As I can tell, the airport and the poor SOB doing the reporting will be on the hook if the information provided is incorrect.
