Greetings, With all that is going on, I would like to get back to an operations question. Being proactive, we have just added a SPECI for Snow beginning, ending and changing in intensity. Although it does not affect takeoff and landings directly, it does affect deicing procedures, which affect ground operations and therefore it becomes operationally significant at this airport. www.faa.gov/other_visit/aviation_industry/airline_operators/airline_safety/deicing/Anyone else out there doing this? LOL....you can call it the cost effective special. Airlines have to deice whenever the observation has snow in it. You can see where having to wait for the next hourly to get the official report could cost them or cause delays.
Yet another reason why ATC and Weather observing should be separate. Major conflict of interest.
I'd be interesting in knowing who proposed this "local" requirement.
