After conducting safety analyses and providing the necessary training, FAA air traffic controllers can provide certain weather services that allow the FAA to reduce its reliance on contract weather observers. This change will yield $16 million in new program cost savings. This will be limited to multiple airports currently serviced by Contract Weather Observers that have similar traffic, weather and operational complexity profiles to 392 other airports currently serviced by Limited Aviation Weather Reporting Station controllers." www.transportation.gov/sites/dot.gov/files/docs/mission/budget/304496/faa-fy2019cj-budgetfinal508compliant.pdfThanks Bobby for the info.....

Seems like the FAA does whatever the hell they want regardless of anybody or anything, Remind me of north Korea. I need to hear something positive and SEE some action from Signal corp soon regarding this situation. If I only have several months of work left, why continue to contribute to a losing cause. This BS really pisses me off.....

For those that have been in this game before please step up and provide some guidance. I have not been in the game that long, but long enough to know that there are good people working behind the silver screen which support our cause and understand the very important service we provide to the flying public.

Charles posted this as well on the observers page on facebook.
Do not be concerned with this Eric. This is proposed and we have people in place in Congress that would block the FAA from closing down some of our sites

The process is that the FAA Reauthorization Act has to pass both houses of Congress (where it's still in committee), go through the reconciliation process to iron out the differences between the House and the Senate, then voted on by both, then signed by the President. The Senate Bill S.1405 looks very good for us, the House version almost as good. The FAA is using us, period, to lobby for more funding for them - they are prohibited by the Hatch Act from lobbying for themselves. Sorry, the FAA look like a bunch of mean heartless %*&^#@%... out to get us, but they are just playing the swamp game. So, a few more months of anxiety, but not likely we'll get shut down. We have friends...

But with an upcoming vote on the FAA Re-Auth bill maybe as early as March this is as good time as any to re-connect or reach out to your local Representatives in Congress and notify them of the importance of the CWO program. The good people behind the " silver screen" have been working this avenue for sometime and are preparing a meeting with Appropriation Committees and the like in the next few weeks to make sure they understand (again) the importance of the CWO program before voting. Well said by northwx . Do not let a budget proposal get you down. But do let it motivate you.

If the congressional bills passes with our wording in it to preserve the CWO program, and the swamp rats still try to close us down, they will be in contempt of congress...which in my book is a jailable offense...
After conducting safety analyses and providing the necessary training, .....That by itself is a false statement...safety analysis was NOT conducted...even though by their definition ,it was...but in the real world...Not...training is a joke and ATC laughs at it...and cheats at it...
392 other airports currently serviced by Limited Aviation Weather Reporting Station controllers."... Just look at the crap they put out for weather...as seen on this site...Swamp dwellers dont know the difference between good wx products and bad wx products, but they are so full of themselves, they think they do...as a pilot, i always question ATC on weather and i come up with alot of cockeyed explanations for weather...They have NO CLUE!!!...I will only fly into LAWRS sites when its totally VFR and what they say doesnt matter to me...AS PIC i have the final decision, not ATC...And thats the whole premise here,...the FAA thinks they have the final decision on everything and you will do what we tell you or else...I dont think so...!!!!

Really all one needs to do is check the FY18 budget proposal when the FAA was going to save $50,000,000 by shifting CWO's to LAWRS. How did that turn out?

How did that turn out? and several fiscal year(s) budget proposals in the past..... But without hard work by many on this forum/elsewhere; those proposals would have become a reality! (That is a fact,, see May 13', Winter 15-16'). Now- not only has the $$ in these proposals been reduced from previous proposals, but so has the likelihood of any closures. (In fact the FAA can not close any sites ((or use any $$ to plan further issues)) under the current "CR" originating from law from July of 16') Being proactive has its' merits. Do not wait for the bean counters to control your fate. Keep up the good fight fellow CWO's!!! Your hard work is paving the way for even longer term job security, which is something we all have earned over time.

I don't think we can afford to be complacent, especially with many of the cuts proposed to other programs.

I don't think we can afford to be complacent, especially with many of the cuts proposed to other programs. And I can assure you that the Association, the Contractors, the Airports, and our SIGNAL team are not being complacent at all. The wheels are constantly moving and turning to help shore up our Program with the folks in Washington.

Yes I was PISSED OFF when I saw the original posting, I was frustrated and disappointed and PISSED OFF sorry If that offended anyone. If things are going on behind closed doors or the "silver screen" and I'm not behind there to hear whats going on in our favor then I was beginning to question things and was getting frustrated. Nobody here should get pissy with me I have done my part to fight the fight written letters to politicians, pay dues, bought more t-shirts than I need and added a lot of posts to try to enlighten the situation. I am much more light of the situation now that I was 24 hrs ago and appreciate most of the answers to help me get there. But give me a break if I'm not as up to date on the whole political process and am not aware of whats going on behind closed doors!
