On Thursday 2 NWS techs, 1 FAA tech type from FAA HQ and 1 FAA type from FAA HQ just standing there, were here to see what was necessary to get the ATCT connected to the ACU (located one mile away) so the ATCT could take observation by 01 August.
PHL, category A, core 30.
The FAA Tech guy said it was just a survey in case they go through with the plan.

Should've given them a couple of Dixie cups and a big spool of string and told them to start walking.

Update on getting the ASOS ready. The NWS tech said the FAA tech told him that they are removing the "L" from LAWRS and the observation will not be termed :"Limited". How they can do that without going outside is beyond me but this is another interesting item to add to the mix.

The MOU between FAA and NATCA states LAWRS though.

The MOU between FAA and NATCA states LAWRS though. Yes, I know that is EXACTLY what it says. So now my fear is that when they told ATCT to stand down with the LAWRS training, is it because they have something new to put out there OR they are rethinking the entire program closure. Again my info is second hand from a NWS tech hearing the info from a FAA tech from HQ. This just out and out SUCKS! I wish the FAA would just come clean as I have other opportunities that will close in the next couple of weeks.

weatheri, if you enjoy the constant drama stick around, it hasn't stopped since I started in 1994, concrete opportunities without the drama are hard to turn down, weigh your options and decide, we are not the FAA's puppets. All I know is I hate to lose, CWO or not, I'm not letting my family down, do what is best for you.

weatheri can't agree more. I moved a little over a year ago at reduced hours in order to keep weather observing which I love. Now my lease is up June 1st and have been working with a realtor since February on buying a home. Well I can't buy a home if I go from over $20 an hour probably down to $10 an hour now can I. Not only that but I have had offers for other jobs but they don't pay nearly as well so why would I jump on them. Wish the FAA would make up their minds cause it's not only affecting me but other as well.

The new transition plan that what posted at this forum yesterday states ATC will be considered AWRS observers, not LAWRS. Of course all manuals and orders, etc. need to be rewritten to accommodate this as well as the CBI course needing to be revamped. That is likely why the "stand down"....IMO

With all of these documents being leaked or whatever you want to call it, are any people on this board remaining optimistic? If so, what are your thoughts on what's to happen to stay optimistic?

Well, we might still have jobs working for the airport authority instead of the FAA. Have you contacted the Director of Operations for your airport?

What to do now? Thoughts please. Airlines are in the process of suing the FAA over furloughs and contract tower closures. I believe the airlines are still unaware of the FAA's plan to eliminate the CWO. I believe they are our only hope. Start by sending letters here wxobservers.freeforums.net/index.cgi?board=faa&action=display&thread=215and as hokiefan stated,, contact your Director of Operations.
