Essential Air Services are EXEMPT from the sequester. It is not run by the FAA, but rather the DOT. Are we not essential air services? Mr Ayote I think it was brought this up.
Also, the issue of Contract towers only being closed not FAA towers the response was because Contract towers are easier to close quickly but costs about the same. There was a request for the documentation supporting such reasoning.

EAS is exempt? Didn't catch that. I used it twice about 20 years ago...there were 4 of us onboard a two engine prop puddle jumper. Yeah it worked out great for me...but for taxpayers...not so much...245 million dollars I believe is what was said. As for CT being the same cost...hogwash. I read that the IG of the GAO rated CT as one of the most efficient run programs sponsored by govt and the the FAA towers cost upwards to SIX times as much to run!
