Are you close to the ATC manager? Maybe he/she can give us an idea of what's in store.

All I have been able to catch onto is she has told each dept. head to gather up some sort of information asap because she is suppose to have it ready before / by the next telco. Sounds like typical govt. bs - never a plan in place. Just change the game plan as it happens. I do know everyone at this ATC is pissed because the chosen one gave away 500 million to another arab friend, and another 340 miliion to an insurance friend in NY, all since the first. That is OUR money, not his to give away.

I know all ATC controllers have to know how to do tower vis, but I did hear one supervisor asking for information on making sure everyone new had passed the so called vis test.

What really chaps my hide is with the new contract that is currently under protest it looked like the FAA was finally going to help the observers make the program a great asset to the aviation community. All offices to be provide internet to do our job properly, admin time to get office work done but also to allow the Senior observer time to meet with tower managers and airport managers if need be.
To now draconian cuts that threaten the CWO program as a whole, it just doesn't make sense.

thunderstruck..Actually the contracts aren't under protest yet. They can't be protested until they are awarded.

FYI ... I just learned that the contract officer will be out of her office until 3/18. It's doubtful we will be hearing any news on the contracts before that date. The upcoming telcons will probably just be the usual circle jerk.

7 rated B with a busy Air Force Base. We have double flights compared to a nearby A site that does below par weather obs.

Just heard from Jerry at PATCO. He said that this "may go down to the last minute. ". And for me to stop watching Obama on tv. I am so nervous about this psbly cuts to CWO program that I cannot eat a solid meal . I am stressed so much. Lost Three pounds in past five days. What a shame to be held a hostage to our leaders in Washington. I need help .

What a shame to be held a hostage to our leaders in Washington. I need help . There is no job on Earth that should lead to this nor is worth fretting that much over. My advice, seek a doctor if that is truly what is causing your problems. Obviously we are all concerned but NO job is worth that, sorry!

Most jobs you have to give 2 week notice right. Think we will get that long? I still think May 1st is the end of the road for many of us. It pains me to say that but the fact is we have been on the chopping block for years and now is their best chance to let us go.

Anyone given a pink slip will likely get 30 days or more notice. I don't see this happening though. I believe those sites scheduled to close have already been given notice. The FAA has recently started sending notices to some towers about reducing their hours. To me this is a positive sign that they are looking to reduce rather than close altogether. My suggestion would be see if your tower has received notification of a reduction. If not, you are probably ok. If so, the reduction so far has only been 5-6 hours during the early mornings.
