Patco now says unless your site has at least 50% membership that site does not get the pay rate set for that city. My question: Is it worth about $50 a month when it now appears that Patco's hands are tied on saving jobs?

It will be different for each person but you'd need to compare your CBA to the federal wage determination for your county.
99% of the time the CBA is a better deal since the pay under the CBA is a few % higher and non union sites do not get personal days, Sunday differential on all Sunday hours worked, etc.

I wonder how PATCO is getting the word out on that, because I'm the steward and I haven't been notified about it yet except from here. Tuso had previously made comments in that direction (actually he said it would be union members get the CBA wage, non-union members get the Service Contract wage).

That's what happens in "Right-To-Work-States" ladies and gentlemen. Though I do agree that if you're not in the Union, you should only get the Wage Determination wage. Why should someone get collectively bargained wages of dues paying Union members when you're not paying dues?

Is PATCO worth it is the issue that needs to be addressed.

Skobie is correct, if you're not a member you shouldn't get any of the bargained wages or benefits.
We had a guy that wasn't a union member decide to file a grievance a while back and needless to say it didn't get very far.

Do you guys in the union really pay $50 a month? Each? For what? A few personal days? The days of contractors coming in and cleaning house have been over for a while now.

^ For what?
In my case I pay union dues of 2 hrs a month (24 per year) for this I get 8 hrs extra holiday 56 personal hours and an hourly wage that is about 15% higher than the wage determination and a H&W payment that is about 25% higher than the wage determination.

A bit more than that ... try:
-- 56 hours of personal time a year - not in the SCA -- Good Friday as a paid holiday - not in the SCA -- H&W over a $1 more per hour than the SCA -- Wages over $2 more per hour than the SCA -- All workers get +25% pay if you work Sunday - not in the SCA
Sure worth my 2 hours of dues a month
Our SCA wages are so out of wack. A few years ago we were working off a WD that was not updated for 4 full years by the DOL, except for the nickel and dime they throw on the H&W each year.

The bottom line is: the only way to have some sort of guarantee of increases in wages and/or H&W and/or personal time and/or any other monetary benefits in this job is to have a CBA in place and bargain for them. This is a basic right of employees in the USA. People who don't like it should either leave their jobs where there are Unions already established or leave the USA if they don't like Unions in general as far as I am concerned. I even have friends and family members that are anti-union and that would still be my response to them as well. Why would someone want to take that right away as they are trying to do in some states. Thank God for FDR and and the National Labor Relations Act!

The only way to guarantee an increase is wages is doing your job well, and doing it right! Plain and simple. A union is not needed! I am gladly not part of my union at my site and I am doing just fine. It's called credibility and experience; gets just as much or more as your beloved union.

Would you be willing to be give up the benefits you get from the CBA since you are gladly not part of the union? If not you are a hipocritical POS.

Don't some union sites actually have a LOWER wage than the wage determination? ie the wage determination went up and they were stuck with what they negotiated?
Not trying to sound negative towards union just trying to determine if it is in fact "worth it".

^ All that I know about is my site and at my site full timers make 8-10k more per year than we would if we weren't on a CBA
