I do not know who PATCO is doing. Is the I am beginning to feel like voting in national elections is a waste of my time. Too many greedy fat cats in D.C worrying about themselves . There is no hope for this country long term unless changes are made . Amen!

The silence from PATCO is deafening. What the hell is Tuso doing? Nothing as usual.

Our steward's reply from Tuso was the same fixed response. "We have our lobbyists working on it....it doesn't look good"....whatever. Dont count on PATCO to give you any information until AFTER things are said and done. Just my humble opinion having dealt with them for the past 10 years.

I know I'm done with the union. If CWO program makes it through, I will not contribute to a union that keeps its members in the dark about possible job closures that will affect many. I mean even if Tuso has no information and its just rumors, address your union publicly. Members shouldn't have to email him on this for a response, there should have been an official response at least by know.

I am the Union Steward in New Orleans. Jerry really disappointed me. Anyone can steer the ship when blue skies and light winds are amist. It takes a hell of a general, a leader, A Patton to lead his men when the battles involve livelihood. Unfortunately, Jerry Tuso has failed us as a leader. I like Jerry but his actions during this time demand a demotion. You don't do your members like he has done. You have to be a respectful coach when you are winning and a responsible mature coach when the game is in the balance. I call unsportsman like penalty on PATCO.

Lets get a new Union if everything works out. We have to take care of our own and if PATCO conitnues to evade our questions and calls, it's time to make a move. Granted we have to wait for the dust to settle before we act, but we should think about going in a different direction.

I always thought PATCO was a strange union. Our facility workers weren't even given the opportunity to vote to ratify the last contract - it was just presented as the "new contract" that was now agreed to and in force. What's with that - what kind of union doesn't have its members vote on these things? It's not really a union a far as I'm concerned, even though they do take the same union dues out of my paycheck as do unions that allow membership voting.

I have spoke with Jerry and he is currently on vacation in Costa Rica with his family. I am just sitting tight until we get official word from the FAA or our contractor that they will be eliminating all of us, before I start to send word out to everyone under the sun. I am looking at options here to privatize our operations. The local FAA ATC here does not want to be responsible at all to augement the ASOS. Plus, the Government needs to understand the cost of moving our equipment back into the tower and getting all our ATC's trained again in augmentation. I believe it is going to be very difficult to get the 6 observers here to go private, but if enough of the community would show enough interest in retaining the weather positions I am going to pursue whatever it takes. If the FAA does not mandate that the ATC's take over weather observations for my location, then I am pursuing avenues to make us private to keep our jobs.

Is is legal to go private? Would you even have an ASOS?

Answer to the second question would probably be No! We would go back to reporting the weather on Manual Forms, but it would still impact local aviation and we probably would somehow report our observations and climotology online , so everyone could access it. We may still have some government entities monitor us, but that would be all. But, it may wind up being to many hurdles to jump through and it may take years to establish. I am just exploring the idea of what it would be like to go private here where I work.
