I don't believe the Local 100 represents any of the sites. There are a few sites in AK represented by the Local 942 and CRW represented by the Machinists and Aerospace Workers.
The remainder are PATCO.

Not true. They represent my site and at least one other that I know of for sure. I am not sure of other FAA, Air Force, or Navy sites beyond that however.

I just spoke with Jerry on the phone for some time. I told him what I know and he told me that PATCO has got some guys up in Washington lobbying for us, but they have not heard a thing about us, only the Contract Towers. He thinks that some news will break today on the closures of the Contract Towers, but no concrete news about the weather contracts. He said though that there is not good things coming out of Washington right now. I would imagine guys that no news is probably good news though for us.

Nothing good comes out of Washington. Did you ask Jerry if he had a good vacation with our Union dues sitting on the beach drinking a cold one? ? When will someone have the guts to tell us the God Dam truth about our program and what is really going on. We're all adults tell us the truth so we can get on with our lives, either way on our jobs, tell us something.

I would like to have a month to find something else.

I think by law you are guaranteed 30 days. With our government LOL In south bend they called us one day before closing to ask if we could stay open another month cause the tower wasn't ready. Month of December mind you so everyone had plans already for Christmas. Guess what tower did it on Christmas Eve cause no one was working it.

Jerry has communicated that PATCO is (understandably) covered up with tower closures as well as our own issue. I don't know if Jerry is a "one man show" or if he has some additional support, but I do know that what they have is not enough by itself. They simply don't have the resources to hire as many experts as we would all like to go to Washington and fight on our behalf. His comment (and I agree) is that WE as wx observers on the front line really are the experts and it is largely up to us to communicate our fight to as many user groups, media, government representatives, etc as we can. Many of us have done this, and some much more than others (thank you!). If you decide not to contribute in the campaign because you don't think anyone will listen and or you feel like the CWO program is destined to go under, then send those letters anyway for the good of the rest of us who really believe that our jobs are worth keeping. The "Revised Letter March 15" in "FAA Contracts" is there and available. Use it, or your own version of it, or recommend someting else. Whether you are pro or anti union makes no difference - all our jobs are on the line regardless. Don't reply to this thread bad mouthing PATCO or unions in general. We need to pull together on this one, union or not. If you do belong to the union, send Jerry a note to let him know that you have sent out letters, and that you trust he will try to keep us as updated as possible on the latest PATCO actions. Jerry and I and I'm sure others have had their differences, but I'm sure he could use some support and encouragement as well right about now.

I'm not trying to stir the pot, but what are we paying dues for?? If Jerry wants us to the do the leg work, why are we paying Union dues again? Its all fine and dandy when everything is smooth, but the Union is supposed to be there when the poop hits the fan. The whole line that we are the experts therefore we should do the leg work is a cop out. You don't have to be an expert to get the word out to the aviation community. I'm very glad there is a community here that is doing everything possible to try and get the word out, and I've sent my letters and tried to get a hold of state senators so they know our issues.

PATCO is suppose to carry the flag for the dues paying members, they should not be expecting the members to Carry the flag for them. I am surprised PATCO is so passive in their support. How about the vendors? Are they actively trying to influence congress, if not they should. Maybe you should ask your vendor to step forward epically with congressmen.

It's their bread and butter too.

Putting it into perspective. Why is Jerry asking everyone to contact their congressman/congresswoman and senators? Also asking everyone to contact as many people as you can about this proposed elimination of the CWO program.
Answer: When Jerry and the union lobbyists go in, they are only a handful of individuals stating they represents x number of sites, x number of employees, worth x number of dollars. When you add the additional numbers from everyone and all those who they contacted, now you start getting noticed. The more an elected official gets asked about a program, the more likely he/she will get involved.

I can say that at least my congressman is hearing it. Don't spam, but definitely make yourselves heard.
