Who in that list has an airport that is in their district that has CWO's. Coble, Norton, who else? It looks like RDU is just east of Coble's district, which runs as far east as Burlington NC. Wouldn't hurt to contact him though. Obviously, people in his district would flying out of RDU- which should make safety a concern for his constituents.

That sucks. Sorry to hear it. What do you mean by "announced?" Thanks.

I guess my post yesterday got passed over by viewers. My ATM told me kind of what atlwxguy said, but the FAA is looking at several options, including the one atlwxguy said. These ATM's will tell us some of what they hear, but do not want to be too expressive to protect their butt till official word come out. It seems the FAA has their mind made up. Remember, this adm. says change is coming.

The Contract Weather Program provides quality weather monitoring, augmentation, and backup of automated weather systems (Automated Surface Observing System and Automated Weather Observation System).
The program has undergone changes based on revalidated requirements and revised FAA Orders, which has reduced the program significantly. Weather observations continue under the Limited Aviation Weather Reporting Station (LAWRS) program.

I got word from my Supervisor in Tampa that Natca announced the 4 group closing schedule. So far they have plans to close up the CWO there on july 31 This could be bad though because TPA is one of the "core" airports, but looking at the stats they do not get any pts for being a hub and they have a BWO score of 1. It meets the criteria for closure that atlwxguy talks about. However if the FAA is planning to close there on 7/31 safety is obviously not a concern, that is right in the middle of thunderstorm season in Fla.

This is the list of the first set of closures that was posted here last week, they are scheduled to close on 6/15. APA is an A with a BWO score of 6 and GFK is an A with a BWO score of 11. If they are announced to be closing early next week (6/15 - 60 days) that would however contradict some of atlwxguys info. Our ATM called our wx office this morning (not to me personally, but the obs there called to tell me) and told the obs that he recieved word that we're done July 31 (we're a level A site, BWO-3). So I called him back to ask for some details. He said that since the first message he had received another message to disregard the first one. Basically he gets trickle-down info that keeps changing. So nothing new.

I left a message on both the contracting manager's and officer's voicemail that rumors are flying and that we are PEOPLE with families to take care of and bills to pay and that it is time for the FAA to come clean with their plans. I suggest everybody do the same. FLOOD their voicemail. Enough is enough and it is time THESE people start feeling the heat.

If a MOA has been reached, a decision should be made soon if it hasn't already- this should all be over soon, and hopefully all of us have jobs, though it's likely at least some of us won't (and I'll be very likely to be one of the unlucky ones)

Yes, that is her name. I forgot to list her name. Gary is the CWO contract manager. Ms. Peverall is the contracting officer.
